Care Instructions

Our jewellery is all made of eco-conscious vegan Kombucha Leather (See for more information)on either upcycled jewellery with a resin finish or new stainless steel. (As marked on the individual pieces)

Because of this, there are certain care considerations you may want to take into account when it comes to use and storage.

Uses

We do our best to ensure the longevity of your piece, however there are some considerations you may wish to follow.

  • While they will be fine in a light sprinkle, because they are primarily biodegradable, these items may rejoin their composting cycle once wet. While wearing, it is best to avoid heavy rain, or other circumstances where they are likely to become wet.

  • In line with keeping the Kombucha Leather dry, they should also be put on after wet hair has had time to dry.

  • Pieces which have been hardened will hold against heavy hair, however softer pieces can lose their shape while being worn. While we personally enjoy this look, pressing a soft piece between your hands or against a flat surface will instantly reshape them.

Storage

Good storage conditions can considerably lengthen the life of your jewellery.

  • If our jewellery has gotten damp during use, it should be hung and aired dry in an open, non-humid environment eg pantry, windowsill. If it has gotten heavily wet, it may be able to be saved by pressing excess water out with a damp cloth on a flat surface then allowing to air dry however we cannot guarantee results.

  • Pieces should be stored hanging  in as low a humidity as possible to avoid damage to the shape and design and reduce risk of tearing. It can also be stored lying down, however care should be taken that it does not press on itself too heavily or have other pieces sitting on it or pushing it to avoid damage.

Please note that there is a very low chance that pieces store lying on each other while still damp may stick together. That is a natural effect of the biodegradable Kombucha Leather that we use to our advantage in other areas.

  • While pieces can be dried in the sun if damp, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight will hasten degredation of the product.

  • If while in storage, your kombucha piece hardens it can be softened by rubbing a small amount of any pure oil on it. Depending on your preferences and what you have available, you can use anything from Essential Oils to Olive Oil.

Ultimately, we understand that the products we make with this Bio-degradable Leather are not as durable as we have become accustomed to our Jewellery being. For a long time, while we investigated this process, we searched for ways to seal the products and increase their durability and longevity. The truth is, there isn't currently a sealing option we have been able to find that doesn't greatly decrease the bio-degradablilty and ultimate eco-consciousness of the product. While we do still still look for ways to increase the amount of use you'll get (which, if taken care of, is a very good amount of time) without impinging our morals, we've turned our attention to a new question.

Is longevity really the goal? We value eco-concious choices, and biodegradable options because of the way they can bring change and excitement to our lives without damaging our moral stance. Your fashion choices now may not be your fashion choices of tomorrow, and choosing jewellery that will do no harm when you're done with it, is an amazing option for expressing yourself without guilt. It might go against the way we think as a society, but we embrace the natural cycle and with that comes change in all its forms, for us as a company, for the product, and for you.
